Our Sugar Skulls are a form          of Lasting Artwork to Celebrate the Dearly Departed.

November 2nd is the official date for The Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos, although it is celebrated between October 31st and November 2nd.  This celebration has a complex history that has been transformed through the years.  The best way to describe this holiday is to say it is a time when family members who have died are remembered.

The holiday is believed to "Welcome the souls of the dead." The souls are said to return each year to enjoy the pleasures that they once had in life.  They are thought to return to be with their living relatives for a few brief hours each year in this world, but come as spirits who have returned from another world.  A widely held belief is that the souls of the children  "Angelitos" return first, and food and gifts appropriate for their age and taste will be set out for them.  This is how the treat of the SUGAR SKULL ORIGINATED.

Always being completely fascinated by the Sugar Skull tradition of  The Day of the Dead holiday I researched the process and decided to try my hands at making them and found out I  loved it!  So these odd little characters soon became a fun part of our family celebration.  This very special part of  the holiday  tradition of hand making Sugar Skulls in hopes of attracting a child's spirit was especially meaningful to me as I've lost a child, my daughter Jodie Lynn.

And so the tradition continues and reaches out as we now share Sweet Dreams Sugar Skulls from our family to your's.  Great love and care goes into each and every Sugar Skull we hand sculpt and decorate rendering them all as individually unique as we all truly are.   It is my hope that each time you look at one of our Sweet Dreams Sugar Skulls a sweet memory of a loved one you've lost will come to mind and you will always remember to celebrate not only those you've lost but the life you're living as well.

I've always been enamored with The Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos and the Sugar Skull tradition  that's a part of the celebration.  When some dear friends were set on having a Halloween Wedding my Mom and I  knew immediately what our gift to the bride and groom would be.  So we  personally  hand crafted over 250 Small Sugar Skulls and  3  Large Sugar Skulls for their Wedding.   They were thrilled and so were their guests everyone loved being able to take such a unique party favor home with them.  The children that were there and some adults munched away on the hard Sugar Skulls.  Talk about a sugar buzz!!!!! We enjoyed  making them and the excitement they generated from others was remarkable so much so that  Sweet Dreams Sugar Skulls was born!  I've been hand sculpting them ever since!

Today, The Day of the Dead is a cherished, illuminating, holiday where death is seen as life, "whatever pleased the dead in life they are to have again." It is a holiday when the whole family comes together - the living and dead.  This holiday festivity is believed to be a time for the departed to join the living in celebrations of the " continuum of life!"
